Ah, dead week. Adderall in the air, flowers wilting everywhere, and the students of UC Berkeley are doing everything in their power to cling onto whatever is left of their sanity. Hours upon hours are spent trapped inside our respective prisons of choice — Main Stacks, Moffitt, Doe, Bancroft — pouring over readings that we never did, seeking help online, trying (and failing) to understand acid-base chemistry, all whilst downing coffee and deluding ourselves into thinking that we might just be prepared for our finals.
From my experience, I have learned that sometimes the best way to ensure success on finals is to allow yourself to take frequent breaks from studying in order to listen to some bumpin’ tunes that will give your mind and body the break you probably don’t deserve yet. But a little procrastination never hurt anyone, right? In fact, listening to music may be more productive than you think. According to several studies, listening to music has been found to be linked with the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that controls pleasure. Dopamine has also been known to spike motivation levels — something that we could all use a little more of. Luckily for you, Caliber has compiled a short playlist for even the deadest of dead-weekers to dance it out, shake it off, twerk, or to do whatever it is you need to do.
