The fulfillment of all basic human needs, environmental services, and economic development depend heavily on the availability of clean water. 2013 marks the United Nation’s International Year for Water Cooperation and with global tensions regarding water resources exploding as inequities in water distribution drive up the cost of food globally, this theme is particularly important.

World Water Day this year is March 22nd, but the Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative (BERC) and Berkeley Water Group have collaborated to organize the 2013 Resources Roundtable on Urban Water this Friday, March 15. Dr. Peter Gleick of the Pacific Institute will be delivering the keynote address beginning at 1:30pm, and Dr. Michael Kiparsky of the new Wheeler Water Institute at UC Berkeley will deliver closing remarks from 5 to 5:30. In between, two expert panels on the challenges and solutions for urban water futures will discuss crucial issues on this topic.
