Treading the fine line between seductive and slutty
I pose the following question: What makes some people appear fun-loving and awesomely promiscuous when they have lots of sex, while others are labeled as easy and trashy for the same actions?
The latter label is unfortunately far too easy to acquire in the drunken land of college parties, while the former is a tad more elusive but still easy to come by with the right attitude. I’ve seen girls with their skirts serving more as shirts than any sort of bottom cover making out with a random frat guy in a corner and automatically been labeled by passerby as a “slut,” even if she goes no farther than a few rounds of spit swapping with a mysterious stranger. At the same time, I know girls that have multiple sexual partners they call up whenever they get the urge, have lots and lots of kinky sex, and have avoided the “s-word” reputation. On the contrary, they are idolized by girls and guys alike. So what’s the difference?
After much consideration and collaboration, I think it all comes down to how you present yourself and how you go about hooking-up. Sounds obvious and not worthy of an article, right? Then why do so many people become sluts rather than sex-machines?
The x-factor: confidence. Sluttiness arises when you need a hook-up to feel good about yourself, or liquid courage to make the first move. Think about it: the people we label as easy rarely emerge during the daytime in class; we see these strange alter-egos arise at night under the influence of some intoxicating substances. The sex-machines have sex whenever and wherever they please, no booze needed to effectively shmooze. College is the perfect time to try lots of new things, sex being no exception. But the sexual habits you build in college will most likely carry on to your later life, and think about it this way: would you rather be Samantha from Sex and the City, or Lindsay Lohan? George Clooney, or Mike the Situation? (no, you wouldn’t get the abs, just the ooze)
Take pride in yourself and in your sexuality. Reclaim your promiscuity and be in charge of how and with whom you choose to use it; this not only ups your sexiness and overall appeal factor, but will stop the s-word in its wobbly, last-stair-missing steps. Prove that you have more to show the world than the upper recesses of your thigh.
*On a gender-related note, the definition of a slut is by no means limited to women; guys can definitely be sluts too. They just more often come in the packaging of a sleaze. Also, no offense is meant by the crude terminology, please excuse the s-word. We’ve all heard it before, and it is used merely for convenience of a universal concept.
Just some food for thought, go out and observe and let me know if you agree.
