One of the many perks of being a student here at UC Berkeley is its prime location. In addition to the college town of Berkeley, with just a BART ride to the city more events and activities become easily accessible to us students. These activities range from attending concerts at Rickshaw Stop to hanging with friends at Union Square. However, the fact of the matter is, trying to enjoy all these activities on a student budget can be quite the struggle.
Recently, over President’s Day weekend, I made a trip to the city to go shopping with friends, and I came to a jaw-dropping discovery – Madewell provides a 15% discount to all students with a valid student ID. With this discovery I could not help but think about how much I could have saved up in the past if I had known about this student discount. Furthermore, this got me thinking about how I am probably missing out on a lot of other great student discount opportunities. If you happen to be in the same boat as me, here is a list of some other places that provide student discounts. Budgeting wisely will allow you to take part in more activities and make the most out of being a student here in Berkeley, so hopefully you can benefit from the list provided below!
Shopping:
Ann Taylor is a women’s-only clothing retailer and a great place to shop if you are preparing for an interview or something of that sort. Ann Taylor offers 20% off all full-price, in-store purchases to students who preset a valid student ID.
Banana Republic provides apparel for both men and women. Banana Republic offers clothes that are clean-cut and professional – I would say that this is another great go-to place when shopping to for an interview. They offer 15% off full-priced purchases for all students with a valid student ID.
Club Monaco is a trendy casual clothing retailer for both men and women. Club Monaco offers 20% off on both full-price and sale merchandise to college students. You just need to present a valid student ID at the time of purchase.
Goodwill has a multitude of discounts available to its customers, and one absolute way that you can take part in this opportunity is by showing your student ID on a Tuesday at any Goodwill to receive a 20% discount on your total purchase.
Guess sells men and women’s clothes that are generally casual, but it is a great place to shop if you want to dress up and accessorize. With just a valid student ID you can receive a 15% discount!
J. Crew would be the place to go to if you are going for a preppy look or are looking for basic and simple pieces. J. Crew is made for college students, both men and women, but this place is pretty pricey for many students living on a tight budget. So take advantage of the 15% student discount they provide with simply showing your valid student ID at the time of purchase.
Madewell is the sister store of J. Crew, but it provides apparel only for women. Madewell is slightly more on the casual side, but like J. Crew the prices are on the higher-end of the spectrum. Madewell also provides college students who present their ID with a 15% discount.

Theatres/Shows:
AMC Theatres offers lower ticket prices to students on Thursdays at select theatres. You just need to show a valid student ID to take part in this awesome opportunity!
Cal Performances provides a 50% discount off all tickets for students who show a valid Cal 1 Card.
California Theatre is located on 2113 Kittredge Street, between Oxford and Shattuck. With your Cal ID, you can bring the ticket price down to $8!
Shattuck Cinemas is located on 2230 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley CA 94704. Shattuck Cinemas has the same policy as California Theatres: your Cal ID can bring the ticket price down to $8.
Yoshi’s is a jazz club/Japanese restaurant located in both Jack London Square and San Francisco. This place is great to see live shows and enjoy good food with friends on a night out! Students can get up to 50% off tickets, so check out their website to see what shows the discount might be eligible on.
Miscellaneous:
FedEx Express provides a 30% discount on FedEx Envelop/Pak and 20% on a package with FedEx IP service with a student ID card! You just have to drop-off your shipment and show your card.
