By now you’ve probably noticed that the weather in Berkeley has taken a turn for the beautiful. The sun is shining, scandy summer clothes are surfacing, and somewhere, Beyonce is filling up her tub halfway and riding with her surfboard. This hot weather is pretty damn sexy, but many of us would like to avoid swimming in sweat if possible. Here are some ideas and tips for how to cool down when things heat up inside or outside of the bedroom.

Cosmo’s Randy Raft is an interesting sex position to try if you’re feeling adventurous and have access to a flotation device and a pool, lake, or other body of water that’s about waist deep. And you can try a twist on the position referenced in Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” with the Surf’s Up Sex Position. But, if you’re feeling like a public indecency charge on your record isn’t something that’s going to help you get a job when you’re ready to graduate, you can always stick to the bathtub or shower, especially if you have a detachable shower head that you can use for clitoral stimulation. Or, simply moving to dry land after some wet and wild foreplay can be a great option. You and your partner(s) can take turns rubbing each other down with body wash, and oral can be especially gratifying in the shower when all parties involved are at their peak cleanliness.
In terms of sexual safety, you need to know that the average latex condom was not designed with water sex in mind. In fact, water can get inside of the condom, so if you’re going to endeavor to have some submerged sexy-time, be sure to put the condom on before you jump in, and once you’re wading in (literally and figuratively, if ya know what I mean), you need to make sure that the penis stays erect the entire time, as a loss in erection can allow water to leak in to the condom. Also, consider the risk of the condom coming off and floating away. If this occurs, please have the decency to go get it and dispose of it properly. God forbid that it gets eaten by an unsuspecting turtle in the ocean or that it ends up in the hands of an unsuspecting pool-goer.

Water also tends to wash away any natural or water-based lubricant which can cause unpleasant friction and also increase the likelihood that the condom will break. Oil-based lube may break through the condom as well. So, if you’re going to take it to the water, be sure to use silicon-based lubricant.
Finally, ice and popsicles are perfect for a romp on a hot day. Let ice melt mouth before you go down on or kiss your partner for an intensely cool and tingly sensation. Popsicles have a similar affect, taste deliciously fruity and refreshing, and they’re ridiculously phallic (if you’re into that). Your hot California day just got hotter.
