Good Eats at the Ferry Building

If you’re staying in the Bay Area for spring break, chances are you’re looking to get out of Berkeley for at least a day or two. The Ferry Building is the perfect location to enjoy the good weather and fresh air. Located on the Embarcadero, at the foot of Market street, it also provides a beautiful waterfront view.

However, the real reason to come to the Ferry Building is the food. Here’s a list of the best chow we found:

1) Hog Island Oyster Co.

Though currently under construction due to restaurant expansion, Hog Island is the gem of the Ferry Building marketplace. If you’re open to seafood and raw oysters, this place will not disappoint.

Must try: Clam chowder (and endless amounts of the free bread & butter)

2) Blue Bottle Coffee

Blue Bottle Brooklyn

Sure, Philz Coffee has its fancy Mint Mojito Iced Coffee. Brewed Awakening may make a mean Matcha Almond Milk Latte. But nobody makes plain old iced coffee as good as Blue Bottle Coffee does.

Must try: New Orleans Iced Coffee (plus a waffle if it’s breakfast time!)

3) Cowgirl Creamery

ARTISAN ORGANIC CHEESE. EVERYWHERE. Okay, I’ll admit you need to love the smell of cheese to even walk by this place without gagging. But, the cheese here is top tier. You take a number, and get to sample as many weird, worldly cheeses as your heart desires.

4) The Acme Bread Company

Acme bread final

Pair bread from ACME with cheese from Cowgirl Creamery and you have the world’s best cheese plate. Freshly baked daily, this bread is famous in the Bay Area. Get there as soon as possible because they sell out of their best breads in the early afternoon!

Must try: Walnut or olive bread

There is also a huge farmers’ market twice a week, on Tuesday and Saturday, that attracts the Bay Area’s finest food and drink. So, take a trip into the city this break and check out the wonderful flavors of the Ferry Building – after all that midterm stress, you deserve to eat your feelings.
