Several gunshots were heard in the computer laboratory in the Haas School of Business on Tuesday afternoon around 2:15pm.

All students were instructed to evacuate the building in an emergency and all classes were cancelled for the day.

A Haas spokesman told the crowd assembled in front of the complex that the suspect  was apprehended and no students were hit. Further sources say the suspect who brandished a gun never fired a shot and that the gunshots originated from UCPD policemen who stormed the computer lab. The police were called when a Haas staff member reported a sighting of a gun half-concealed in a bag. The police fired several shots at the suspect when he did not comply with their orders to put the gun down. The suspect was then apprehended and air-lifted out of the building.

Some of the bullets pierced the wall of the undergraduate computer lab and almost hit a staff member sitting at the media services desk.

Two Haas students who were in the computer lab say they heard around 4-5 shots and everyone screaming “stay down” and “take cover”. A Long library receptionist yelled into the loudspeaker system and told the students to evacuate immediately. “Everyone was frantic. People in the lab either hid in the study rooms or bolted out the door,” said a Haas senior who was near the computer lab.

An email to the Haas community confirmed that “the suspect brandished a gun and was shot by a law enforcement officer and is in route to the hospital.”

As the crowd gathered outside the complex and rumors circulated that the shooting was a direct response to the Occupy Cal movement.

Update: According to a WarnMe communication, there is no longer a threat at the school. “Campus activities have returned to normal,” the message said.
