Missing the exotic flavors of Asian foods for cheap prices? Or maybe you miss the tastiness of home cooked Asian food. Hopefully you didn’t miss out on the Asian American Association’s (AAA) food festival on Lower Sproul this week. It showcased amazing food and culture presentations from the Pilipino Association  of Scientists, Architects & Engineers (PASAE), the Berkeley Cambodian Students Association (BCSA), the Nikkei Student Union (NSU), the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA), the Asian American Association Issues Committee, the Taiwanese Student Association (TSA), the Team HBV, and the Sri Lankan Student Association (SLSA). The best part of it all was the dirt cheap prices-fuck yeah for one dollar chicken curry!

All in all I only spent five dollars for a tummy-rubbing, knee-slapping good time. Actually, my friend Vi Tran paid for me so technically I had a free dinner-an example of friend exploitation even Omarosa from The Apprentice would be proud of. The most memorable dishes were the chicken curry and the banana coconut milk from the BCSA table (and they were only a dollar each). The Vietnamese desserts at the VSA were also a dollar each; however, my only critique of the whole event was their bamboo hat decorations that were not cute. Call me a jaded Asian but I’m tired of the overdone stereotypical symbols of Asian culture. Maybe I’ve taken one too many ethnic studies classes. Or not enough.

While I was eating there was also Chinese jumprope going on and loud Asian music blasting. It brought back memories of humid summers in China-or Oakland Chinatown (same thing). I don’t think even the new America’s Next Top Model season could top this weekend starter. Cheers to a successful event organized by AAA-who apparently also donated 10% of the purchases to charity (in case you felt guilty about consuming so much deliciousness). I hope people got a chance to at least stop by to check it out. I already cannot wait for the next one. I just hope they can get guest performers and chairs to sit next time. No bamboo mats please-or expect a bitchfit from this stereotype slasher.
