5 Ways to Make the Most of Spring Break at Home

Unfortunately, not all of us can jet-set with friends to a vacation in Cabo or road trip down to LA. Some of us have to trade in the boys-and-girls-gone-wild spring break for things presumably a tad more PG. But don’t fret. Consider yourself lucky in having time to relax and rejuvenate. Make the most of your staycation by doing the following:

1. Sleep

You can never get enough of it.

We all know that college life is just not conducive to getting that desired eight-hour per night beauty sleep. But, now that you have a full week off from classes, activities, and social distractions, just go for it. Shamelessly sleep in until one in the afternoon. Take that three-hour, midday nap. Rest up for next week’s midterms.

You deserve it.

2. Watch Unlimited Amounts of TV/Movies

This is the time to catch-up on all the shows you’ve missed during the semester! Binge-watch that series you’ve been eyeing on Netflix. Wondering what the big deal is about “Empire”? Find out! Go to the movies with friends – the possibilities are endless! And at home, you don’t have to feel bad about not studying, spending all day in your sweatpants, and watching TV. Embrace it and grab that bowl of popcorn.

3. Learn Something Cool

A week is just enough time to learn how to make your grandma’s delicious enchiladas or watch YouTube videos. There’s no better time to learn something random — like how to dance the Carlton, French braid, or perform a cool magic trick. You could also become an expert on your favorite movie, or memorize the rap to that new Kendrick Lamar song to mind-blow all your friends (don’t worry, your secret’s safe with me).

4. Study

I hate to say it, but we all know that spring break can’t last forever. If you have a midterm after break – like some of us unfortunately do – try studying during those couple of hours you get bored. Catch-up on that reading you got behind on. Or, if you’re a superstar and somehow ahead of the game, start reviewing for finals. Doing work now could mean less stress and last-minute cramming later.

5. Spend Time With Family

At school, we’re away from our families for most of the year. We can get distracted and busy with endless studying, club activities, and hanging out with friends. But at then end of the day everyone misses their families and gets homesick once in a while. Now that you’re home, spend time bonding with your siblings, helping your parents around the house, and reclaiming your spot on the couch. It’s the little things that count – enjoy spending time with your loved ones.

Most importantly, we have the week off for a reason. Take “spring break” literally. Let yourself unwind, and get ready to finish the semester off strong.
