5 Ways to De-Stress until Spring Break

Midterm season got you in a funk? Desperately yearning for Spring Break? Well, here are some ways to cheer up, de-stress, and have a spring fling with the city!

  1. Go out and see San Francisco! Once your midterms are over, get a bunch of your friends or roommates and head out to the other side of the bridge. Or, even explore on your own and lose yourself in this crazy city. Explore all the unique experiences San Francisco has to offer: art museums, restaurants, shopping, concerts, festivals, etc. Soak up the unique culture of the Bay Area. Ride a bike along the Golden Gate Bridge or hop on a cable car. Go to Alcatraz, visit the Painted Ladies, or have a picnic at Alamo Square Park. The weather is beautiful, we must enjoy it while it lasts!
  2. Try some new fitness classes at the RSF! Did you know that if you have an RSF membership, you have access to free group exercise classes? At just $10 a semester, we’d say that’s a pretty good deal. Try yoga to relax your mind or cycling to get into shape for Spring Break. Get around to trying Pilates, since you’ve been talking about trying it for a while now. Get off your bed and sign out of Netflix and relieve your stress while getting into shape. It’s just one hour or less of your day. You can even take a hike up to the Big C or on the hiking trails near campus. You’ll be feeling way more energized than with any amount of coffee or napping!
  3. If you find yourself saying “Ha!” at the suggestion of actually getting up and out of bed, start a new show on Netflix. Midterms are over right? You can treat yourself. But don’t go too crazy, because before you know it, you might find yourself failing half your classes and staying up until 4 in the morning binge-watching “Mad Men” when you have an 8 a.m. class. But if it’s any consolation, we all know professors are on the same page, as they all seem to be referencing “Breaking Bad” any chance they get.
  4. Spice up your palate! Sick of dining hall food or those frozen microwave dinners? You have world cuisine near your doorstep. Experiment with new and different food. Try that new place everyone has been raving about. Or, find your own new favorites and try something different on the menu until you’ve had them all. Enjoy your lunch outside in the fresh spring air!
  5. Do some spring cleaning! It may be about time you washed your sheets and put away all those clothes stacked on the edges of your bed. We all live in pretty tight quarters around here and a good cleaning can open up your space. Whether it be some feng shui–ing or simply throwing out all the junk you’ve been piling up in the corners of your room, change it up and clear it out. It’ll feel like a whole new space and may help you feel less anxious in your clutter.
