In the USA Network hit Suits, Mike Ross starts out as a drug dealer on the run and winds up in one of New York’s most successful legal closers, Harvey Specter. Impressed by Mike’s smarts, Harvey Specter hires him on the spot despite his lack of legal qualifications, and so the basis of Suits is born. In the words of Stefon from Saturday Night Live, this show has everything: fraud, witty banter, love stories, betrayal, and all-around entertainment. Its spectacular script and actors drew over 600 Berkeley students to the Suits College Tour event last week, hosted by USA and ASUC SUPERB, where students got a live Q&A with actors from the show, as well as a sneak preview of the new season premiere. Ultimately the event was a hit; as evidenced by all the golden bear “Suitors” who waited hours for the premiere.

With that said, here are 10 reasons why you should catch up on “Suits” before the season 3.5 premiere on March 6th.

1. The cast. I mean… just look at them.

2. Legal jargon. If you have any interest in law, this is the show for you. I personally have no idea what they are talking about sometimes, but after three seasons I’ve started to pick up on some terms that make me sound cool around my Legal Studies friends.

3. Witty banter. At the USA/SUPERB Suits College Tour event, the quick back-and-forth between characters caused the audience to laugh out loud. This show is a listed as a drama, but the characters are actually funny, and it’s nice to have some comic relief amidst the otherwise serious plot lines that take place in the courtroom.

4. The script. The writing for this show is spectacularly complex, with plot lines so deep they will leave you in awe. The producers overlap so many sub-stories on top of one another and still manage to make it all coherent in the end.

5. Withdrawal. I’m guessing that most people need something to fill the void while they wait for the new seasons of their other shows to return. Face it folks, Game of Thrones is on break until April 6th so if you’re going to dedicate your time to another Netflix show, it should definitely be this one.

6. Louis Litt. Rick Hoffman’s character alone is reason to watch Suits. Arguably one of the best supporting characters in television drama today, Louis is an evil genius and a team player all at once. He is odd, awkward, and he occasionally talks to his cat. But all in all, he is a complement to Harvey’s character, and I’m constantly fluctuating between absolutely hating his guts and wanting to high-five him for being downright awesome.

7. Accessibility. Suits is on Netflix, DVD, USA Network’s website, AND onDemand. Which means you literally have no excuse not to binge-watch all three seasons over one weekend.

8. Intelligent characters. Every character in this show is clever and cunning; even when you think they’ve gotten themselves into an unresolvable problem, they find a way to undo the problem and by the end of the episode you just want to stand up and applause. You’ll develop a love/hate relationship with all of them and that’s part of what makes the show so entertaining.

9. The secret. Everyone loves a good secret, and its exciting to see how Mike Ross’s real identity may or may not unravel over the series of episodes. When will Rachel find out? When will Donna? Will Louis ever find out? You’ll have to watch the show to get the answers!

10. The references. Suits is constantly making elaborate references, whether it be to contemporary pop culture or to older films and music. You get to see Harvey and Mike duke out which one of them is Butch and which is Sundance from the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (spoiler: Harvey is Butch, Mike is Sundance). It’s true that you might not understand every reference, but the show incorporates a range of time periods so that when you finally do hear a reference you recognize, you’ll smirk at how they worked it into the script naturally and seamlessly.

Long story short, catch up on Suits then watch the season premiere on March 6. You won’t regret it!
