Youtube, the Visual DIYer’s God

Youtube, the Visual DIYer’s God

Oh Youtube. My one stop shop for procrastination options galore. I can watch terrible viral videos or consume mass amounts of Very Mary Kate and in the same breath, not think about that awful homework-shaped thing that seems to constantly demand undeserved attention (like Michael Lohan).

Very Mary Kate > Homework

In any event, I love me my Youtube. If Youtube were a person, I would take him out on a very lovely dinner date in the poshest of restauarants, have a glass of bubbling Moscato with him, feed him a deliciously decadent chocolate dessert, and then pay for his cab ride home (the man would be a walking venereal disease, let’s be honest- he let’s ANYONE post ANYTHING on him).

But the point is, that Youtube could be my Yoda. Yes, it has terrible terrible shitola on there. HOWEVER, Youtube is a god amongst websites, and I will tell you why. Now, because I have prolonged this for far too long:

This Youtube.
Just so we are clear.

EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO DO, I LEARNED BY WATCHING YOUTUBE VIDEOS.

I taught myself how to knit, crochet, sew, do my make- up, fix my own car, cook, do my hair, do things on excel/ word, fake an accent, do vibrato on the violin, bind my own book, tie a tie, install a new faceplate on my old blackberry, pronounce obscure German words… you NAME IT… by watching Youtube videos!

Youtube is the answer to every problem a visual (or auditory) learner (like myself) could ever have. The fact of the matter is, I could google a “How to” question and probably get an about.com or eHow result, which would only lead to MORE googling… or I can go to Youtube and watch a video on it, pause where need be and watch it over and over again until I figure it out.

The reason why I felt so compelled to write this article is because I feel like Youtube is a bit of an untapped resource. Sure it has plenty of fame and notoriety that comes from its frivolous and mindless entertainment, but Youtube has a deeper and more intellectual(ish) side that not many people know about. And it has become my duty to make the world aware, thus, this blog post.

Apparently this is what the people want to know how to do.

So do you want to learn how to do the perfect smoky eye?

Do you want to learn how to make a creme brulee?

Do you want to know how to tie- dye different designs?

Do you want to know how to make your own tutu?

Do you want to know how to remove nail polish from a carpet without damaging the carpet?

Do you want to know how to make a knit scarf?

All of these answers (and more!) can be found on Youtube.

So add that Youtube to your bookmark bar, between Facebook and Telebears, and make it YOUR one-stop shop to everything, ever.

Any-who, I am off to watch more Very Mary Kate! RAIIIIIINFORRRRRESSSSTTTT….
