Sonnet to Halloween

by on Oct, 31 2012

Sonnet to Halloween

Could any other day dare to compare

To the one evening of imagined frights

Of blood-stained stories and a witch’s lair

That provoke screams to pierce the endless nights

Boys and girls of all ages, big and small

Transform into monsters and princesses

Heroes with swords and dinosaurs that crawl

The metamorphoses are quite endless

Oh, how the imaginary excites!

Amidst the laughters awaits the macabre

Choosing the “trick” in the shout “Trick or treat!”

Chocolate is gobbled without a sob

When the moon fades away like a dark queen

She smiles, knowing it was Halloween
