Music Spotlight: Madeline

This week’s track is the 1.5-minute “I Left the Light On” by Madeline Adams, a folk artist from Georgia who sings and writes her own songs.

Her music style is airy and piercing at the same time; she sounds like Lily Allen if Lily Allen could sing an octave higher (as in “The Fear”).

[Madeline] I Left the Light On

Madeline’s technique, such as hand clapping and guitar strumming, is nowhere as complex as that of Rodrigo Y Gabriela, but her songs are addicting at first listen – so addicting that they subsequently transition to ear worms.

Full Lyrics:

I left the line on and it’s burning,
burning just for you, just for you
you phone just ain’t calling,
calling like it used to, like it used to
open the door and you’re running,
running away, away
I follow and I grab you, oh grab you
in a haze, in a haze

steering well the car is turning,
turning but the light’s red
but the light’s red
drive up to your building,
building don’t know what I did
I don’t know what I did
