Halloween Makeup Tutorials
by Jo W. on Oct, 28 2012With Halloween arriving in just a few days, you may be wondering how you’re going to do your makeup, or still wondering what to be for Halloween (in one of my friend’s case, she already has her costume idea and the outfit, but has no idea how to apply makeup). Here are a few Halloween makeup tutorials to serve as inspiration.
In this hilariously narrated tutorial (in which no rubber ducky has been harmed during the making of, thankyouverymuch!), Smashinbeauty performs in two different roles. First, she’s a mad scientist who communicates with a rubby ducky and barks out crazy commands while conducting an experiment to create a soul mate for Frankenstein’s monster. Then, after screaming the parodied-to-death exclamation, “It’s aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!” she performs as the monster’s bride.
What a sassy bride he has! He should consider himself a lucky man.
A classic spooky look that’s sure to make you seem as though your head has been reduced to a sunken skull. The skull makeup look is more versatile than you think. Wear it with a retro dress, and you’ve got a zombie pin-up girl. Wear a black hoodie (a plastic scythe is optional, but preferable), and you can go as a modern-day Grim Reaper. Wear a white dress, and you can be a dead bride. Or, when you’re out of ideas, just wear it with your usual Cal sweater, and you can be a decomposed Cal student. The options are endless!
The Hunger Games–Girl on Fire-inspired Makeup
Were you disappointed by the lack of creativity for the “Girl on Fire” concept in The Hunger Games film adaption? (As beautiful as Jennifer Lawrence looked in the film, did anyone else think she looked like she was going to prom?) Well, guess what? You can top the lackluster look and remain relatively faithful to the descriptions in the book. Just watch this girl’s creative tutorial and see how eye-catching she looks compared to the movie’s version.
Scarlett Johansson Transformation
Just look at the photo on the right. You wouldn’t think you’re looking at an Asian woman, would you? That’s right, Promise Phan (sister-in-law to the famous Youtube makeup artist Michelle Phan) is a phenomenal chameleon when it comes to applying makeup. She’s transformed herself into many celebrities and movie characters, and she makes it look so easy! Doesn’t she look so much like Scarlett Johansson here?
If you’re not interested in masquerading as the blonde beauty, you can check out Promise Phan’s Youtube Channel for countless more options. Some options include Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, Mona Lisa, Bellatrix Lestrange, Adriana Lima, and Edward Scissorhands!
To Hell with looking sexy. You can save your skanky get-ups for when you’re role-playing with your significant other. When else during the year can you walk around in public and have fun being bloody and gory and horrifically frightening?
It’s very impressive to see how realistic the blood and muscles beneath the skin underneath the eye looks in this video. Not to mention the concept of unzipping skin is very creative, and, if done well, is bound to blow away onlookers.
Skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony…this fair maiden from the Grimm Brothers is described to be the epitome of fairy tale innocence. Why be a sexy Snow White when you can go for the classic look?
Other Disney Princess tutorials include Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Mulan from Mulan, Jasmine from Aladdin, and so on.
Michelle Phan, like her sister-in-law Promise Phan, has also done countless transformations, including Black Swan, Seductive Vampire, a Wicked Red Riding Hood, a Gothic Lolita Doll, a Forest Fairy, her famous Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” tutorial.
Hope your creative side can be piqued in anticipation of All Hallow’s Eve!
