Did you know that Nathan Ghar-jun Adrian is a Cal Bear? Well, now you do. During his time at Cal, in addition to his swimming career, the 6 ft. 6 in. Olympian majored in public health and graduated in 2011 with honors. Mind you, this is all on top of winning a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and being a five-time individual NCAA champion.
This summer, at the London Olympics, he won gold for the 100 m freestyle event and the 4×100-meter medley relay, and won a silver medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay. In his swimming career so far, he has won a total of twelve gold, two silver, and one bronze medals in major competitions that include the Olympics (well, we know that already!), the FINA World Aquatics Championships, and the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. Not only is he raking in the medals, but with his down-to-earth persona, he has risen as one of the most popular swimmers in the United States along with the renowned Michael Phelps.
A native of Bremerton, Washingon, he has stated that after he retires from being a swimmer, he plans to return to his hometown, settle down, and start a family.
And how cute is his description of himself on his personal Twitter? “Swimmer, Olympian, Child at heart, and I don’t care if you think it is gross to brush my teeth in the shower!”
