Ask Caliber: For The Students, By The Students

Presenting: A new feature of Caliber Magazine-

Ask Caliber!

It’s a Friday night. You’re sitting with your friends, taking a break from Frat Row for the week. You all stare wistfully at your Scrabble board, knowing that if you suggest that one more time, somebody’s gonna get hurt reeeeeal bad. You wish desperately that you knew some more innovative people, someone, anyone whose suggestions don’t include Twister or watching a movie or getting dinner, because you’ve already done it all. Is there a solution to your problem?

You’re a newbie freshman. You’ve just moved in, and you know absolutely nothing. You’re craving boba, because let’s face it, boba is the best thing for anyone at any time. But you don’t know where to invest your precious dollars. What if the boba has more tapioca than you like? What if the flavors are too diluted? You wish you could ask someone who’s been around longer than you, but alas, you’re a freshman and you know no one. What can you do?

You’re entering senior year, and while you’ve done a lot, you haven’t done it all. But you just can’t think of what you’ve missed off the list. Maybe those baby sophomores discovered something you didn’t, maybe something new has come up that you just don’t know about, you old thing you. You hope desperately that some lowerclassman will approach you, but you’re a cranky old senior, far too feared for normal conversation. So now what?

Born out of a desperate need for a Berkeley based forum, Caliber Magazine would like to present to you our newest feature (drum roll please)… Ask Caliber! And no, we’re not telling you your fortune or reading your palms…

Well, what is it then? Ask Caliber is the solution to your problems. Well, maybe not all of them, let’s reserve some of those for your family and friends… but those questions about what classes to choose or the shortest route from Dwinelle to Mulford, those ones we can answer. And by we I don’t mean only the staff on Caliber (although we are pretty knowledgeable and awesome), I mean the entire student body. Yes, the whooooole student body. Look at how much knowledge you can access with one click of a button! It’s almost like we’ve created a new Wikipedia!

But I’ve digressed.
Haven’t you ever wanted to pose a question to another student? Well, this is your chance.Sign up for an account on our website (it takes a second, we promise) and ask your questions or answer someone else’s. If the peanut gallery likes your answer, it’ll be voted up through a rather complicated process… clicking the thumbs up. We know, it’s totally counter intuitive. If you’re good enough, you may even be hailed an all knowing Berkeley guru! This way, the control lies entirely in your hands. Ask your pressing questions, share your wisdom, vote up words that might as well have been yours and vote down that one restaurant that you absolutely hate (though you should make sure it isn’t your friend’s favorite whose hopes and dreams you’re now killing).

It’s really as simple as that. Not another day will go by with your queries, no matter how big or small, unanswered. Ask Caliber will make sure of that.

So tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your floormates, tell your RA, tell the random student handing you a flyer, tell your family… okay, maybe stop juuuust short of telling your family. But you get my point. Or don’t tell anyone, take your time and get ahead in the game by making yourself a top answerer.

Regardless, you have so much knowledge, now play nice and lend us some. Don’t forget, sharing is caring!
